Advises the Development Permit Board about the applications that the board is reviewing. The advisory panel:

• Reviews plans and models of proposed major development
• Hears presentations from applicants and other interested parties
• Attends all meetings of the Development Permit Board. Panel members may participate in board meetings if they wish.

Provides advice and guidance to Council, staff, civic agencies, developers, and citizens on public art matters, including the Public Art Program.

Advises Council on planning and development issues in the city, and may report to Council on any proposal likely to have a significant effect on the future of the city.

Advises Council on the operation, use and improvement of the civic theatres (Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Orpheum, and Vancouver Playhouse).

Advises Council on:

• The need for preserving heritage buildings, structures, or lands which collectively represent a cross-section of all periods and styles in the City's historic and cultural evolution
• The costs and benefits of the preservations
• The compatibility of preservations with other lawful uses of the buildings, structures, or land
• Recommendations on the designation of heritage buildings, structures, and lands, and the demolition, preservation, alteration, or renovation of those buildings, structures, and lands

Responsible for developing library policy and service strategy, providing financial oversight and working with the Chief Librarian and CEO to oversee the provision of services.
