Business and Economy Office

What we do

The Business and Economy Office (BEO) helps create the conditions for businesses to succeed and for Vancouver's economy to grow and thrive. We lead our coordinated approach to business support and economic development, working across departments and alongside industry and community partners.

Our role is to understand the opportunities and challenges facing Vancouver's economy and facilitate and align our response in support of creating conditions that enable businesses to succeed.

What our work includes

  • Supporting local businesses and commercial districts by helping address challenges and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Providing economic research, data, insights, and strategic advice to inform our policies and decision-making.
  • Building strong relationships with business associations, industry leaders, investors, economic development leaders, and community partners.
  • Advancing economic development initiatives and investment attraction opportunities that strengthen Vancouver's economy.
  • Helping align our programs, regulations, and services with economic competitiveness and business needs.
  • Developing tools, frameworks, and best practices that help our departments better understand and consider business and economic impacts.
  • Upholding our governance responsibilities for Vancouver's 22 Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), which help support, promote, and advocate for local commercial districts.
