Public invited to help revitalize the historical entertainment district

August 2 2023 –

The first phase of the City of Vancouver’s public engagement on the Granville Street Planning Program wraps up on August 31, 2023.

“It’s time to revitalize Granville St. as Vancouver’s premier entertainment district,” said Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim. “The feedback we receive from the public will help set the stage for a safe, fun and vibrant Granville Street for generations to come.”

The City is asking for your input to explore new opportunities for entertainment, dining, tourism, hotels, retail, and office space, with an eye towards economic development, cultural revitalization, enriching the area’s unique heritage character, and re-imagining space for public gatherings.

Provide your input by:

  • Visiting Shape Your City to complete the survey (available in English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Punjabi)
  • Using the mapping tool to identify arts, culture and heritage places, experiences, and stories that make this area special
  • Coming to the pop-up information booth at the Granville Street Block Party (August 26-27)

Public feedback will be gathered and shared through an engagement summary that will inform the final Granville Street Planning Program and presented to Council for approval in 2024.

Background

The planning program follows a January 31, 2023, decision by Council to initiate a new planning study to engage with residents, businesses, and stakeholders in developing a new vision for Granville Street as an exciting, welcoming, safe, and inclusive downtown destination.
