Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation announces support for creative projects in community

We are pleased to announce the latest round of community-led projects funded through the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation’s Neighbourhood Matching Fund (NMF).

For over 30 years, the NMF has provided funding and staff support for creative projects in city parks and public spaces. The program awards up to $10,000 to match contributions, including in-kind donations and volunteer labour, to each successful group. 

The projects announced today are intended to enhance creativity and community in Vancouver’s public spaces through place-making projects. 

2026 funded projects 

These six projects have received funding support totaling $50,000, to develop new creative projects and enhance ongoing work in local communities:

  • Anishinaabe Circle British Columbia Society (AC/BC) is coming together with Britannia Community Centre to create and install an Indigenous language learning library to address the area’s larger multicultural and multilingual Indigenous population, created by and for community.
  • The current Fieldhouse residents at Elm Park Patchbay’s Listening Library project will see the creation and installation of a sonic "little library" in Elm Park including a collective sound archive of the neighborhood. 
  • Community Garden Roots will establish and resource an Indigenous Advisory Council to lead the stewardship of the Trout Lake Medicine Wheel Garden, advancing Indigenous food sovereignty, self-determination, and community wellness on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵʷx̱ʷú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations 
  • Stanley Park Ecology Society’s Stanley Park Bat Commons: Community Habitat & Stewardship Project is a community-led project in Stanley Park that builds permanent bat habitat, supports endangered bat species, and brings people together through citizen science, education, and hands-on stewardship. 
  • Third Space Tours are a series of neighbourhood-based walking tours- organized by community group Third Space Vancouver - that showcase local third spaces/public spaces, highlight community stories, and connect neighbours. 
  • Community members will co-design and install a series of decorative ground mosaics in a city green space at Cornett Road and Natal Street, celebrating the wildlife of Renfrew Creek and its adjacent pollinator meadow led by Still Moon Arts Society. 

Participation in all projects is free and everyone is invited to get involved. 

About the Neighbourhood Matching Fund 

Neighbourhood Matching Funds projects involve the creation of innovative and lasting work for community enjoyment and use. These projects express something unique about the neighbourhood. The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation can provide funds up to $10,000 to match volunteer time and donated contributions from the community. Projects must actively involve the local community and build neighborhood connections.
