Shape Vancouver’s future: by-election announced for April 5, 2025

January 21 2025 –

The City of Vancouver will hold a municipal by-election on Saturday, April 5, 2025, to fill 2 vacant seats on City Council.

Eligible voters have three ways to vote: 

  • Advance voting: Vote early on March 26 or April 1, 2025, from 8am to 8pm at Vancouver City Hall.
  • Election day: Vote on April 5, from 8am to 8pm at Vancouver City Hall or any of 24 community centres. 
  • Vote by mail: Voters can skip the lines and vote from home! Vancouverites can request a vote-by-mail package online, or by calling 3-1-1, starting March 3.

Chief Election Officer

City Council has appointed Vancouver City Clerk Katrina Leckovic as Chief Election Officer to oversee the by-election. The Chief Election Officer is responsible for ensuring a fair, transparent, and accessible by-election. 

Eligibility to vote

Residents are eligible to vote in the by-election if they:

  • Are at least 18 years old on Election Day (April 5, 2025)
  • Are Canadian citizens
  • Have lived in British Columbia for at least six months immediately before registration day
  • Live in Vancouver, or own property registered in their name for at least 30 days before registering to vote
  • Are not disqualified by law from voting

Property owners who don’t live in Vancouver may still be eligible to vote as Non-Resident Property Electors. For more information on eligibility, voting locations, ways to vote, and voter registration, visit vancouver.ca/vote.
