Vancouver’s beloved tree sale is back
Help grow Vancouver’s urban forest with a $15 tree
The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation’s fall tree sale has 19 varieties of trees, including ornamental, deciduous, coniferous, and fruit trees.
Discounted trees, such as Japanese maple, Honeycrisp apple, magnolias, and figs, were selected by the Park Board's Urban Forestry team to provide a wide range of benefits such as climate adaptability, food production and pollinator habitat suitable to Vancouver’s unique growing conditions.
“We’re very happy to be bringing back the tree sale, which has always been a hit with residents,” said Vancouver Park Board Chair Laura Christensen. “We have a long history of planting and caring for trees in green spaces and parks across Vancouver, and the tree sale is a fantastic way to involve the community in helping us grow our urban forest.”
Each household can purchase up to three trees at $15 each at: vancouver.ca/tree-sale
These trees are meant to be planted on private property within the city of Vancouver to support the City’s effort to increase the urban canopy cover. The Park Board and the City of Vancouver are working to increase urban canopy coverage from 25 per cent to 30 per cent by the year 2050. This goal is ambitious, but achievable with the help of Vancouver residents.
Vancouver’s urban forest includes all trees in parks, streets and private yards. It is vital for cleaning the air, managing rainwater, providing home for the wildlife and birds, and improving people's overall health and well-being.
Trees can only be bought online and must be picked up at the Hillcrest Nat Bailey Stadium (at the southern gravel parking lot) on Sunday, October 19 from 9 am to 2 pm.
