Squamish Nation’s Tiná7 Cht Ti Temíxw: We Come From This Land wins 2025 City of Vancouver Book Award
The City of Vancouver is proud to announce that the Squamish Nation has won the 2025 City of Vancouver Book Award for their book Tiná7 Cht Ti Temíxw: We Come From This Land.
The annual City of Vancouver Book Award has been recognizing authors of excellence in any genre since 1989. This year’s finalists were selected by an independent jury representing the diversity of Vancouver’s literary community: Hari Alluri, Tina May and Carolyn Nakagawa.
The jury shared the following reflection on the award-winning book:
“Tiná7 Cht Ti Temíxw: We Come From This Land: A Walk Through the History of the Squamish People is a heft of achievement. Designed and illustrated beautifully, deeply informative and integrative of such richness, it carries millennia within its pages: ancient stories, colonial devastation, rigorous reclamation and contemporary expressions of culture steeped in relations between land, water and people. This is living history grounded in detailed knowing and where knowledge comes from. Feel this book as a tradition of music, as a crucial and stellar document—an artistic treasure to return to gratefully over and again. Tiná7 Cht Ti Temíxw will no doubt be both touchstone and inspiration to generations of future work."
