Google Street View Integration with VanMap

Google’s Street View provides imagery taken from street level as opposed to orthophotos which are taken from directly above and Pictometry oblique imagery which is taken from an angle. It is now possible to access Google’s Street View from either the VanMap tool box or from the Pictometry imagery page.

Note: Google's Street View is only available through VanMap if you are using Internet Explorer as your browser. We apologize for this limitation and we are working towards resolving it.

Note: Please note that Google has not captured Street View imagery for every street and lane in Vancouver. As a result, the location that Street View displays may not be the exact location that you have chosen in VanMap, or the Street View window may be empty if no data was captured. The City has no control over the streets and lanes for which Google has chosen to capture imagery or how they have assembled and presented them. When Google Street View imagery displays, it is in a separate Google window and the normal Google methods of manipulating the imagery are available. The Google Street View window is not a City website and the City takes no responsibility for it.

Accessing Street View from the VanMap Toolbox

In the upper right hand corner of the VanMap toolbox (just above the map) there is a button for Street View. The first time in a VanMap session that you click on this button, you will get a message to digitize a point in VanMap for which you want to see Street View imagery. Subsequent times in the session that you click on the Street View button, the message will not appear; you simply need to click on the location for which you want Street View imagery displayed. Once the Street View window opens, you are in Google’s Street View web site.

Accessing Street View from the Pictometry Viewer

If the Pictometry imagery viewer is open and the user clicks on the Google Maps button, a new window opens showing Street View imagery for the approximate image centre location displayed in the Pictometry window. Once the Street View window opens, you are in Google’s Street View web site.
