Child development plays an important role in enhancing social sustainability in our communities. The City's 2002 Strategic Childcare Plan, "Moving Forward: Childcare, A Cornerstone of Child Development Services" provides a framework for a coordinated, comprehensive range of child development services including early childhood education, child care and parenting/ caregiver services within a hub model. The range of services delivered in these hubs may include, licensed group and family childcare, licensed preschool, parenting programs, supports to informal child care providers and stay at home parents, including drop-in programs, play groups and child minding. Child development hubs will take a leadership role in their communities to help plan, coordinate and/ or deliver a continuum of child development services. Services may be co-located or coordinated to provide easy access for families and seamless service for children, and will examine ways to share resources.
