Searching

• You can use the extensive VanMap documentation to help answer your questions.
• You can search the documentation to find what you need.
• You can use the address search to look for hundred blocks.

Layers & Legend

• To see what layers are in VanMap, select List of Layers in the Documentation Index.
• You can turn on several layers at once by using the Ctrl key and clicking on the layer names you want to turn on; then turn one of them on.
• You can use the Shift key to select and then turn on all of the layers between the first and last one you select.
• You can collapse or expand a layer group by double-clicking on the name of that layer group.
• You can tell a lot from the map scale because layers disappear or become available at different scales
• You can expand or collapse the layers by clicking on Legend Options above the legend.
• You can make the legend wider or narrower by dragging the boundary between the legend and the map to the right or left.

Selecting

• You can select features in an area by windowing the area (draw a rectangle to select all map objects that fall within that rectangular area).
• You can select multiple features by holding the Shift key while you click on the features
• You can select objects by right-clicking your mouse.
• You can unselect an object by holding the Shift key and clicking the mouse (or choosing from the right click menu).

Specific Layers

• You can use Zoning Districts and Zoning District Labels to see zoning information.
• You can link to the zoning bylaw by turning on the zoning layer and double-clicking in the map.
• You can display areas with a specified zoning designation.
• You can join a mailing list to hear about new VanMap developments.
• You can right-click your mouse in the map area to get more capabilities.
• You can set your general preferences by right-clicking your mouse on the map.
• You can save your geographical place by creating a bookmark.
• You can use the measure distance function to see how far it is from one point to another

Printing

• You can print the map window by right-clicking or clicking on the VanMap print button
• Printing in landscape as opposed to portrait results in a larger map
