Searching
Layers & Legend
- To see what layers are in VanMap, select List of Layers in the Documentation Index.
- You can turn on several layers at once by using the Ctrl key and clicking on the layer names you want to turn on; then turn one of them on.
- You can use the Shift key to select and then turn on all of the layers between the first and last one you select.
- You can collapse or expand a layer group by double-clicking on the name of that layer group.
- You can tell a lot from the map scale because layers disappear or become available at different scales
- You can expand or collapse the layers by clicking on Legend Options above the legend.
- You can make the legend wider or narrower by dragging the boundary between the legend and the map to the right or left.
Selecting
- You can select features in an area by windowing the area (draw a rectangle to select all map objects that fall within that rectangular
area).
- You can select multiple features by holding the Shift key while you click on the features
- You can select objects by right-clicking your mouse.
- You can unselect an object by holding the Shift key and clicking the mouse (or choosing from the right click menu).
Specific Layers
Printing
- You can print the map window by right-clicking or clicking on the VanMap print button
- Printing in landscape as opposed to portrait results in a larger map
