Autodesk MapGuide ActiveX Control Viewer installation for Win/IE

System Requirements for Autodesk MapGuide 6.5 ActiveX Control Viewer

  • Pentium PC
  • Microsoft Windows Vista, XP Home Edition or Professional (SP 1), Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 98 SE, or Windows NT 4.0 (SP6a)
  • 16 MB RAM (24 MB required if using Windows NT 4.0)
  • Mouse or compatible pointing device
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x or higher

Automatic installation of new viewer

  1. Start VanMap to begin the automatic download and installation of the new viewer.
  2. A message will tell you that you do not have the ActiveX Viewer installed. Click OK to begin the installation.
  3. Select Yes at the Security Warning asking if you want to install the viewer.
  4. When the automatic download and installation process is finished, VanMap will be open with the disclaimer screen displayed. You will know that you have the upgraded version of the viewer if the legend listing all the layers is white, rather than grey.

Removal of old viewer

If you are prompted with an error warning dialog box saying that an older viewer exists, the viewer upgrade is required. The existing MapGuide viewer must be removed before the new viewer can be installed.

  1. Make sure VanMap is closed by closing all opened VanMap windows while you are upgrading to the new viewer.
  2. In Internet Explorer, select Tools > Internet Options Click to see an image of Internet Options from the menu.
  3. In the Internet Options dialogue box, select Settings Click to see an image of Settings dialogue box.
  4. In the Settings dialogue box, select View Objects to see the Downloaded Program Files window.
  5. In the Downloaded Program Files window Click to see an image of Downloaded Program Files, right-click once on Autodesk MapGuide ActiveX Control and then select Remove from the popup menu to remove the old viewer from the list. Alternatively, open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files. Right-click once on Autodesk MapGuide ActiveX Control and then select Remove from the popup menu. Note: If Autodesk MapGuide ActiveX Control is not listed in the Downloaded Program Files folder, go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and remove Autodesk MapGuide ActiveX control from there.

Manual installation of MapGuide viewer

If you cannot open VanMap with the automatic download process described above, you may need to download and install the new MapGuide Viewer ActiveX control manually. The existing MapGuide viewer must be removed before the new viewer can be installed manually.

  1. Remove the old viewer — see removal of old viewer.
  2. Click and save the file MGControl65.EXE to a directory on your computer.
  3. Locate the saved file and double-click on it to install the MapGuide Viewer.
  4. Choose default settings in the installation.
  5. Close Internet Explorer and then reopen it.

Check your viewer version

To check current viewer version to see if it is the latest Viewer (v6.

  • Open VanMap in a browser.
  • Right-click in the map area.
  • Select Help > About Autodesk MapGuide from the popup menu.
