Autodesk MapGuide Java Edition Viewer installation for Mac

System Requirements for Autodesk MapGuide 6.5 Java Edition Viewer on MAC

  • Apple® Macintosh® computer
  • Mac® OS 10.xx
  • 32 MB RAM (64 MB RAM or more recommended)
  • Mouse or compatible pointing device
  • Safari 1.3 or higher
  • Other browsers: Firefox 1.0 or higher, Opera 7 or higher, MS Internet Explorer 5.x (defunct and discontinued)
  • The minimum screen resolution required for VanMap is 800X600 pixels with small fonts.
  • Note: Although in most cases, your Mac computer may have proper Java virtual machine installed, you must ensure that Java and JavaScript are enabled in your browser, otherwise, you won't be able to use Autodesk MapGuide Java Edition Viewer to open VanMap. Some browsers are distributed without Java and you must download it as a plug-in from Sun Microsystem's website.

Download and installation process

MapGuide Java Edition Viewer is a Java applet bundled in a JAR (Java ARchive) file mgjava.jar, and in order to use it, you need to have proper Java virtual machine installed and enabled in your browser. As a first time user, you only need to download and install the MapGuide Java Edition Viewer once on your Mac through one browser, preferably Safari browser. Once the Viewer is installed on your system, it can be shared and used by any supporting browser on your Mac, such as Firefox, or Opera.

Install Viewer:

Check the button below to see if you have a MapGuide Java Edition Viewer installed on your Mac.

  • If the button says 'Go to installer', your browser does not have a required MapGuide Java Edition viewer installed.
  • Select the 'Go to installer' button to install and follow the directions, or go to MapGuide Java Edition Viewer for Mac to download and install the latest Viewer (v6.5) for browser(s) on Mac.

After viewer installation is done, you must reboot your Mac and then start VanMap.

If the button says 'Installed', you can Start VanMapMac.

Remove and Upgrade Viewer:

If you are prompted with an error warning dialog box saying that the map window file you are trying to open requires the latest version of the program you are using (Autodesk MapGuide Viewer, Java Edition), remove the version you have and follow the steps described above to download and install the required latest MapGuide Java Edition Viewer. You may find the old Viewer file mgjava.jar from either of the following folders:

  • Current user home directory/Library/Java/Extensions/
  • /Library/Java/Extensions/ — this folder requires Admin privileges.

Alternatively, you may search for the Viewer file mgjava.jar, and once found, delete it. Then, to upgrade your viewer, go to install viewer again.

Manual Installation:

if for some reason you are unable to install the Java Edition Viewer through the steps above, you may need to download and install the Viewer manually by doing the following:

  1. Remove the old viewer file mgjava.jar from its folder – see remove and upgrade section.
  2. Download the file mgjava.jar and save it in your download folder.
  3. Move or copy the mgjava.jar file and place it in either of these two folders:
    • current user home directory/Library/Java/Extensions/
    • /Library/Java/Extensions/ — this folder requires Admin privileges.
  4. Close your browser and reboot your Mac.
  5. Use your browser to open VanMap.
