Expect travel delays on East 1st Avenue at Highway 1 this Easter long weekend
Drivers heading in and out of Vancouver over the upcoming Easter long weekend are advised to expect delays while crews complete repaving work on East 1st Avenue between Highway 1 and Boundary Road.
Road closures on Sunday and Monday
Starting at 5 am on Sunday, April 5, until 9 pm on Monday, April 6, drivers should expect the following around-the-clock impacts:
- East 1st Avenue closed both directions between Boundary Road and Rupert Street.
- Ramps to and from Highway 1 closed, except for the eastbound off-ramp which will remain open.
- Boundary Road closed southbound between Graveley St and East 2nd Avenue.
Pedestrians will be able to walk through the area during the closure. VPD traffic control personnel will be on site to support the public.
Drivers are advised to plan ahead, use alternate routes and expect delays in the area, especially those who typically access or exit Highway 1 via East 1st Avenue.
Infrastructure upgrades
This repaving work is one of the final steps in a series of infrastructure upgrades to improve safety and comfort along this corridor.
Upgrades include new curb ramps and improved pedestrian crossings between Rupert Street and Boundary Road; a new dedicated left-turn lane from East 1st Avenue to Valiant Street; and a new centre median to replace one temporarily removed for FortisBC work.
Final remediation work and line painting is scheduled to take place later this month.
