Georgia Viaduct temporary closure this weekend

May 28 2026 –

On Saturday, May 30, the Georgia Viaduct will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians between 6 am and 8 pm. The closure will start at the intersection of W Georgia Street and Beatty Street, and end at Prior Street.

This closure is required to support the removal of a crane at a nearby development at 150 W Georgia Street.

It’s anticipated that this work will be completed on Saturday, however, work could extend into Sunday, May 31, until 2:30 pm.

Dunsmuir Viaduct will remain open as normal for westbound traffic heading into downtown.

Traffic impacts

  • Drivers: All vehicle lanes on the Georgia Viaduct will be closed. Plan an alternate route to exit downtown.
  • Pedestrians: No pedestrian access on the Georgia Viaduct. Pedestrians should use the path on Dunsmuir Viaduct.
  • Cyclists: Cyclists should continue to use the eastbound bike lane on Dunsmuir Viaduct.

Pacific Boulevard closure

As a reminder, Pacific Boulevard is currently closed between Smithe and Carrall through the end of July. This closure is for all traffic including vehicles, bikes and pedestrians. It is in place to support tournament operations for the FIFA World Cup™, which arrives in Vancouver next month.

  • Vehicles not destined for local addresses will need to turn at Cambie Street.
  • Access to Smithe Street for Parq Complex and One Pacific will be maintained.
  • The Pacific Boulevard bike lane is closed, with cyclists detoured to the seawall. Full seawall access will be maintained throughout the tournament period.
