Role of civic agencies
Civic agencies help communicate community perspectives to Council and staff while advising on City priorities, projects, and initiatives. A few, like the Board of Variance or the Building Board of Appeal, have specific decision-making authority.
The generosity and expertise of volunteer civic agency members helps us to fulfill our mission to create a great city of communities that cares about our people, environment, and opportunities to live, work, play, and prosper.
Our civic agencies are appointed by City Council and made up of approximately 30:
- Boards
- Commissions
- Committees
- Panels
Most civic agencies are advisory to City Council and/or staff and some are administered by external organizations, such as the PNE or the Vancouver Public Library.
