Over successive capital plans, we’re making significant investments in projects to continue to enhance the livability, sustainability, and resilience of our city.

Water, sewer, and green rainwater infrastructure

Oak Street sewer separation upgrades

We're replacing aging combined sewer infrastructure along Oak Street, West 70th Avenue, and Fremlin Street with separated pipes.

Hastings Sunrise sewer and green rainwater infrastructure

A 3-phase initiative to adapt the neighbourhood’s sewer and rainwater management for climate change while reducing combined sewer overflows.

Pump station upgrades

We’re upgrading sewer pump stations that have reached the end of their service life and will be replaced with larger-capacity facilities.

West King Edward Street upgrades

We’re upgrading critical water, sewer, and street infrastructure and adding green rainwater infrastructure features along W King Edward.

St George Rainway

A project to build a 4-block rainway along St George Street to manage rainwater, add shade and habitat, and improve safety and accessibility.

Access to Water Program

A city-wide initiative to address ‘water deserts’ and provide equitable access to water starting with the Downtown Eastside.

Neighbourhood Energy Utility expansion

This project will triple the utility’s capacity to recycle heat captured from sewage around False Creek Flats.

West Pender Street water upgrades

We’re upgrading drinking water infrastructure that is nearing its service life along the W Pender St corridor between Burrard St and Cardero St.

Streets, transportation, and public spaces

Water Street pedestrian zone pilot

This summer, sections of Water Street and Maple Tree Square will be transformed into vibrant pedestrian zone.

Gastown

We're investing in Gastown to make sure that it continues to be a vibrant place for you to live, work, and play here, now, and into the future.

Granville Connector

A $50 million investment that will transform the way we use the Granville Bridge by converting 2 travel lanes to walking, rolling, and cycling.

Granville Bridge upgrades

A long-term investment in maintaining the Granville Bridge’s steel structure and coating.

Homer Street upgrades

An investment to improve road safety on a key downtown route heavily used by buses.

Street upgrades (paving/LED upgrades/curb ramps/sidewalk rehab)

We are making the city safer and more accessible for everyone by building new sidewalks, making repairs, and adding hundreds of new curb ramps.

Neighbourhood plazas

We’re upgrading several plazas. Neighbourhood plazas create important public spaces for community building and social activities.

Bus corridor improvements

We're prioritizing transit, so that buses can be on-time and reliable to accommodate growing transit needs.

Bute-Robson Plaza construction

We’re building a permanent Bute-Robson Plaza to create a vibrant public space that can support community activations for years to come.

Civic facilities

Coal Harbour phase 2

A new building at 488 Broughton will provide community amenities, including an elementary school, childcare centre, and affordable housing.

PNE ampitheatre renewal

A renewed PNE amphitheatre will provide more access to music, culture, and multi-functional outdoor space.

Oakridge redevelopment

Oakridge Centre is being redeveloped to include a new community centre, library, performance area, and childcare facility.

Marpole Community Centre renewal

A community-guided project that will deliver a renewed community centre at Oak Park.

Sunset Seniors Centre

An addition to the existing Sunset Community Centre will offer intergenerational programming and meet LEED and accessibility standards.

Firehall No. 17

Firehall No 17 is the first carbon-zero firehall in Canada. Located at 7070 Knight Street, it underwent a significant renewal and construction.

Housing, culture, and childcare

Marpole Neighbourhood House Child Care and Early Years Learning Centre

A new 69-space childcare facility on the roof-top of David Lloyd George Elementary School.

825 Pacific arts and culture hub

825 Pacific, a certified Passive House zero emissions building, provides much-needed space for artists and non-profits.

Vienna House

A new 123-unit housing project in East Vancouver offers affordable homes for individuals, seniors, people with disabilities, and families.

58 W Hastings Street

This innovative social housing project on the Downtown Eastside will provide 231 new homes with integrated health support for the community.

338 Sawmill

Our dedication to affordability is evident in the River District's new housing development. Opening in fall 2024, it offers 337 new units.

West Fraserlands Childcare Centre

The stand-alone facility at 3010 E Kent North will offer 69 childcare spaces. Construction is anticipated to be complete in 2025.

Henry Hudson Elementary Childcare Centre

Located on the rooftop level of a seismically replaced school, this new facility has 65 childcare spaces and 30 multipurpose rooms.

Dogwood Gardens – 605 W 59th Ave

In fall 2022, Dogwood Gardens opened its doors, with operators S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and Tikva, welcoming residents to 138 new affordable homes.

162 Main Street

Fully completed and occupied, this project offers 69 micro suites, 42 social housing units, and 28 market rental rates within the DTES.

Parks and open spaces

Champlain Heights playground

This $745,000 renewal project added new accessibility features for children of all ages and abilities.

Coopers' Park off-leash area

This renewed space includes a small and shy dog enclosure, accessible pathways and seating, a dog washing station, and water play features.

Promontory Park

This new space features grassy areas, pathways, and plants, providing a vital green space connection from Champlain Heights to the riverfront.

South Kinross Park

This new park features play equipment, water play, trees, and plantings to adapt to more intense heat and rain expected with climate change.

Tatlow and Volunteer Park stream restoration

This daylighting project connects an existing stream to English Bay, increasing beach access, adding habitat, and adapting for sea level rise.

Oakridge Park in the sky

We’re planning a new public park at Oakridge Centre, located partially on the mall roof and at ground level. A first for Vancouver.

Langara Golf Course drainage

Langara Golf Course is now the driest golf course in the Lower Mainland, following the installation of 83,000 metres of drainage pipe.

DTES tree planting

We’re prioritizing tree planting in areas with diminished canopy, including the DTES, from 23% to 30% by 2050.
