Oak Street sewer separation upgrades

This project will result in 1 kilometre of new sewer pipes with a life expectancy of about 100 years.

Separating a sewer system

We are replacing aging combined sewer infrastructure along Oak Street, West 70th Avenue, and Fremlin Street with separated pipes.

The upgrade of the sewer system will:

  • Accommodate population growth in the Cambie Corridor
  • Effectively manage heavier rainfall expected with climate change
  • Handle higher capacities of rainwater and sewage separately
  • Help protect the water quality in the Fraser River

The project is primarily funded by developers through the Development Cost Levy, with additional funding from local development projects.

What's happeningMarch 2025: Final paving underway, expect delays

From March 15 to 30, crews will be completing final paving work along Oak St and W 70th Ave. Expect temporary lane closures, detours, and reduced speeds during this period, including:

March 15 and 16:

  • Oak St at W 70th Ave intersection reduced to 1 lane each way

March 17 to 30:

  • Oak St open with minimum one lane traffic at all times
  • Eastbound W 70th Ave closed, between Osler St and Shaughnessy St, with a detour in place at Granville St

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete this final stage of the project.
