Cyclist riding on protected bike lane on Beatty Street

Beatty Street upgrades

As part of our commitment to have two-thirds of all trips in Vancouver made by walking, cycling, and transit by 2030, we’re making transportation safety upgrades on Beatty Street from Smithe to Georgia Street.

Starting summer 2025, we’ll be replacing the interim bike lanes installed in 2016 with temporary materials and installing permanent cycling infrastructure.

What's happeningPermanent bike lane construction begins July 2025

Key improvements on Beatty Street from Smithe Street to Georgia Street include:

  • All ages and abilities (AAA) unidirectional bike lanes on both sides of the street, raised to sidewalk level
  • Rebuilding the intersection of Beatty and Robson streets, which will include traffic signal changes to improve pedestrian safety and accessible design features like walking surface indicators
  • Electrifying the existing Mobi station on Beatty at Robson
  • Adding a right-turn signal for northeast-bound vehicles on Beatty Street at Georgia Street to minimize conflicts between cyclists and drivers travelling northeast

These changes will improve safety, increase bike lane capacity and usage, and make the street more flexible during major events at BC Place.
