We’re upgrading aging sewer infrastructure in the Marpole neighbourhood, along sections of Granville St, West 59th Ave, and West 62nd Ave.
The existing combined sewer system will be replaced with a separated and larger-capacity system, with 1 pipe for rainwater runoff and another pipe for sewage.
The new sewer system will help:
- Handle higher capacities of rainwater and sewage separately
- Accommodate population growth
- Manage heavier rainfall expected with climate change
- Protect water quality in the Fraser River
Sewer separation in action

What's happeningConstruction starts fall 2025
Fall 2025 to early 2026: Overnight work on Granville St
Sewer construction on Granville St will take place mostly overnight on weekdays, between 8pm and 5am. Completing this work at night, when the roads are quieter, makes it safer for crews and means the work can be done faster and with fewer traffic impacts.
Throughout fall 2025, we will also be competing minor sidewalk rehabilitation on sections of Granville Street.
In early 2026, we’ll start daytime sewer construction on sections of West 59th Ave and West 62nd Ave.
Duration
- Fall 2025 to spring 2026
Work hours
Construction will typically take place Monday to Friday, with extended hours as needed. This includes:
- Nighttime construction on Granville St (between 8pm and 5am)
- Daytime construction on West 59th Ave and West 62nd Ave (between 7am and 5pm)
Occasional weekend work will be required, where construction will take place continuously at key intersections. Residents and businesses will be notified in advance of any planned weekend work.
