Construction being done on a road with giant concrete pipes

Memorial West trenchless sewer upgrades

We’re upgrading sewer infrastructure along Highbury Street between West 31st Avenue and the laneway south of West 33rd Avenue, including a section that runs underneath Memorial West Park.

The existing sewer system will be replaced with a separated and larger-capacity system, with one pipe for rainwater runoff and another pipe for sewage.

Trenchless sewer construction

To minimize impacts to residents, park facilities, and mature trees, we’ll use trenchless methods to install the upgraded sewer system between W 31st and W 33rd Avenues.

This underground method minimizes surface disruption. We'll dig access pits at either end of the park and install the sewer between them.

What's happeningConstruction nearing completion

Crews are completing final paving work on the pathway through Memorial West Park, which is anticipated to be finished by mid-May.

A new sewer separation project will begin shortly after the trenchless sewer separation through the park is complete. That work will begin at the intersection of Highbury St and W 31st Ave and move north along Wallace St towards King Edward Ave.
