Bute-Robson Plaza construction

We’re building a permanent Bute-Robson Plaza to create a welcoming and vibrant public space that can support community connections and activations for years to come. We are also extending the plaza feel onto Robson Street by widening the sidewalks for more space to stroll and raising the intersection to prioritize walking and rolling.

The work area will be on Bute Street between Haro Street and Eihu Lane, and along the adjacent blocks on Robson Street east and west of the intersection.

We based the design of the plaza and public enhancement features on input from businesses, stakeholders and the West End community during Bute Greenway engagement.

What's happeningConstruction is now underway

Construction is on schedule and expected to be complete by fall 2025.

Robson Street

In summer 2024, we began public space improvements on the Robson Street blocks adjacent to the plaza. We plan to finish the majority of construction work on Robson Street in early April 2025, at which time Robson Street will reopen to 2-way traffic.

Expect occasional traffic impacts and sidewalk detours while we complete smaller works on Robson Street (for example, seating installation and landscaping) over the coming months. For the safety of all, be sure to follow posted signage and detours.

Bute Street

In April 2025, construction of the permanent plaza on Bute Street will begin. We will maintain access to residences and businesses at all times, although there may be some temporary detours.

Once the plaza is complete, Bute Street will be permanently closed to vehicles between Haro Street and Eihu Lane. Access to parking lots will remain.

Thank you for your ongoing patience while we complete this work.
