West Pender Street water upgrades

How this construction may affect you

  Parking

  Street parking will be temporarily removed on both sides of West Pender Street. Watch for signage.

• 

  Traffic impacts

  • We recommend using alternative routes to avoid the project area whenever possible.
  • Construction impacts will be phased as work activities move from block to block.
  • There will be rolling intersection closures as the project progresses. Occasionally, single-lane-alternating traffic might be implemented to facilitate construction activities.
  • Bus stops may be temporarily closed or re-located. 
  • West Pender Street will be restricted to bus-only from Hornby Street to Thurlow Street for the first few weeks of construction. Following this full closure, West Pender will be re-opened but reduced to one lane in each direction from Burrard Street to Bute Street for the duration of phase 1. 
• 

  Walking and cycling

  • Pedestrian access will remain throughout the project, except for short durations during specific work activities.
  • Walking and cycling access will be retained where possible and detours will be in place when needed.
  • In some areas, water hoses will be temporarily laid along the sidewalk, but will be covered to avoid tripping.
  • Watch for signage for temporary changes to pedestrian access.

  Noise and vibration

  Periods of noise and vibration are expected during construction and will generally be limited to within our noise bylaw hours.

  Efforts will be made to minimize noise, particularly during early hours, however, some noise is expected because of the nature of this work.

  We will provide advance notice for any work anticipated outside of these hours that requires a noise bylaw exception permit.

  Access to residences and businesses

  Access to residences and businesses will be maintained as much as possible. We will work with you in advance to make sure that disruptions are minimized.

  In some areas, water hoses will be temporarily laid along the sidewalk, but will be marked and covered in front of entrances to avoid tripping.

• 

  Water service impacts

  We will provide advanced notice of any disruption to your water service, except in the case of an emergency.
