Granville Bridge upgrades - Structural repairs and recoating

We’re carrying out rehabilitation work on the steel structure of the Granville Bridge to make sure this infrastructure continues to serve us well. This work is being delivered in phases, over multiple capital plans.

Rehabilitation work on the Granville Bridge

The rehabilitation work includes localized repairs to:

  • Steel sections of the bridge
  • Portions of the steel coating system

Some of the existing bird netting under the bridge will be modified as part of the rehabilitation work.

Coating systems are designed to protect structural steel from corrosion and are important for maintaining the overall integrity of the bridge. The new coating will last 30 to 40 years, with regular maintenance.

Phase 1 is complete

Phase 1, which included structural repairs and recoating on 3 sections under the south end of the bridge, is now complete. We completed this work between fall 2022 and winter 2024.
