Heavy Urban Search and Rescue
The HUSAR team rescues victims from major structural collapses, natural disasters and other hazards, and is one of six heavy urban search and rescue teams able to deploy anywhere in Canada.
The Heavy Urban Search and Rescue (HUSAR) team is currently seeking recruits to fill rescue and technical support positions.
Joining the HUSAR team provides a great opportunity to develop valuable personal and professional skills, and contribute to critical public safety and emergency response efforts on a local and national level.
HUSAR team members continue working in their regular roles, however, if the HUSAR team is deployed, they could be expected to temporarily leave their role, without notice, for up to 14 days to assist with HUSAR response work.
Eligibility and commitment
These positions are open to employees from all departments who:
- Currently work for the City, Park Board, or Vancouver Public Library
- Are regular full-time (RFT)
- Have manager approval
A variety of skills and experiences are required.
Roles are mentally and physically demanding and require a commitment of at least five years. Training is provided.
