Renting your home for 90 days or less? You need a short-term rental licence. Our short-term rental regulations help protect long-term rental housing and allow residents to earn additional income.
Before you apply for a licence
- You must live in the property as your principal residence.
- Only 1 licence for each person allowed.
- Strata and/or landlord approval required before applying.
- Include your licence number in all online listings.

Apply for a new licence
First time hosting? Get your short-term rental business licence to legally operate in Vancouver.
Fee: $1,060 licence fee and $74 application fee
Renew a licence
Already licensed? Renew annually by December 31 and update your listings with the new number.
Fee: $1,060 each year and $106 late fee penalty

When to report
Report a short term rental if:
- Operating without a licence
- Not the operator’s principal residence
- Not allowed by a landlord or strata
- Unsafe or violating fire or safety rules
- Making a nuisance (noise, garbage, parking, and more)
