Expect delays on the Georgia Viaduct this fall
Repair work underway until spring 2027
Drivers travelling out of downtown on the Georgia Viaduct are advised to expect delays starting tomorrow, as crews start repair work on the Georgia Viaduct.
The Georgia Viaduct is an eastbound route that connects downtown to the east side of the city. This work, which involves replacing expansion joints on viaduct deck and ramps, will be underway until spring 2027.
Main Street exit ramp closure
Starting Friday, October 2, the vehicle exit ramp from the Georgia Viaduct to Main Street will be closed for approximately three months.
Ongoing traffic impacts until spring 2027
For the duration of the project, the following impacts are anticipated:
- Drivers: Expect reduced lanes and potential delays on the Georgia Viaduct.
- Pedestrians: The Georgia Viaduct sidewalk is anticipated to be closed for an extended period during construction. Use the sidewalk on the adjacent Dunsmuir Viaduct.
- Cyclists: The bike lane on the Dunsmuir Viaduct will not be impacted.
Pacific Boulevard, below the viaduct, will require short term lane closures at times to support this work. Please follow posted signage when travelling through this area.
The Dunsmuir Viaduct will remain open to westbound vehicle traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists traveling in both directions.

The future of the Georgia and Dunsmuir viaducts
Although the viaducts are planned to be replaced with an at-grade street network as part of the Northeast False Creek Plan, the timeline for their removal is still uncertain. Ongoing maintenance and repairs will be required to ensure the existing infrastructure continues to be safe and reliable.
