Car driving on Granville Street

Expect traffic delays in Marpole this January

January 2 2026 –

Drivers should expect significant traffic impacts in Marpole this month, as crews work around-the-clock to complete sewer upgrades at the intersection of Granville Street and Park Drive.

From January 5 – 15, the following short-term traffic restrictions will be in place:

  • Monday, January 5 – Sunday, January 11:
    • Granville Street reduced to one lane in each direction between West 57th and West 64th avenues.
    • No left turns onto Park Drive during this time.
  • Sunday, January 11 – Thursday, January 15:
    • In addition to the above lane closures, Park Drive will be fully closed in both directions between Granville and French streets.

Construction will take place 24/7 during this time. Closures are scheduled to end by 7 am on Thursday, January 15, after which Granville Street is expected return to two daytime lanes in each direction, with night work continuing. Park Drive is anticipated to fully reopen following construction.

We’re completing this complex intersection work on an accelerated schedule to reduce disruption. By condensing the timeline, we can finish faster and avoid a prolonged construction period.

If you are travelling in the area, plan ahead, expect delays and take note of the following tips:

About the project

The Granville Street Sewer Upgrades project is a significant investment in renewing core infrastructure being delivered under the  2023-26 Capital Plan. Valued at $20 million, this project is part of ongoing work to replace aging combined sewer infrastructure in Marpole neighbourhood with new separated pipes. Once complete, the new sewer system will support population growth, accommodate heavier rainfall, and advance the City’s regulatory requirement to eliminate combined sewer overflows (CSOs) by 2050. The project is on track and anticipated to be complete by spring 2026.
