Non-resident property electors

You can register to vote as a non-resident property elector if you:

• Are a Canadian citizen
• Are 18 years old or older, or you will turn 18 on or before October 17
• Live somewhere else in BC and have owned property in Vancouver for at least 6 months
• Have owned your Vancouver property for at least 30 days, or have a registered long-term lease (99 years or more)
• Have property registered to a person (not held in trust for a corporation)
• Are not disqualified from voting by law

What disqualified from voting means

You may not vote in a BC local government election if you:

• Have been convicted of an indictable offence and are in custody
• Are involuntarily confined to a psychiatric or other institution as a result of being acquitted of or found not criminally responsible for an offence under the Criminal Code on account of mental disorder
• Have been found guilty of an election offence

• You cannot be a non-resident property elector if you are on the Vancouver Voters List as a resident elector.
• Only one owner per property can register to vote.
• You can only register once, even if you own multiple properties in Vancouver.
• If you own the property with other people, you must get written consent from  majority of the owners.
• You must sign your application form in front of a witness. The witness must also sign the form and provide their home address (unless the witness is an election worker).
• When you register to vote with the City as a non-resident property elector, your name will not be added to the provincial voters list. However, your name will remain on the City voters list.
