Election employment opportunities

Responsibilities:

• Manage and supervise election workers at an assigned voting place
• Make sure voting procedures are followed and voting places are safe and accessible
• Solve and manage issues related to voters, media, candidate representatives (scrutineers), and election workers in the assigned location(s)

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Presiding Election Official (PEO) and in the PEO’s absence, assumes the duties and responsibilities of the PEO
• Assist with the setup and closing of the voting location and registration of voters

• Greet voters and provide information and assistance to voters
• Process voters and update voter information on the electronic voters list
• Issue ballots to eligible voters
• Assist voters to insert the ballot into the tabulator while keeping the secrecy of the ballot

If you have previously worked as a City of Vancouver election worker, log in with your existing username under ‘I already have a username’.

Getting contacted

Only applicants who are being considered will be contacted.  

Working during advance voting and on election day  

You must be available to work election day on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Advance voting is optional. 

Choosing which areas of the city to work

You may provide your top 3 local areas in the application. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences but cannot guarantee specific locations as they will be based on operational needs.

You must attend a mandatory in-person training session for your assigned role.

Training will take place between September 19 and October 11, 2026. The in-person training session is approximately 3 to 4 hours, and about 1 hour of online training must be completed in advance.

Getting paid and when

You will be paid on November 6, 2026, by direct deposit.

You will need to submit a void cheque or a date stamped direct deposit form from your bank. If you don't have a bank account, you will get paid by cheque and it will be mailed to the address you provide to us.

Who needs to pay the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability pension

People under the age of 18 or over the age of 70 are automatically exempt from paying CPP.

If you are between 65 and 70 and would like to be exempt from the CPP deductions, complete the CPT30 form External website, opens in new tab and submit it to the recruitment team by August 20, 2026.

How to get your T4

Your T4 will be mailed to your mailing address no later than March 12, 2027. A digital copy of your T4 will be available in your Canada Revenue Agency account External website, opens in new tab by the end of March 2027.

If you change your mailing address, email your updated mailing address to [email protected] as soon as possible.
