2012 Vancouver Building By-law

2012 Vancouver Building By-law

Proposed Changes to the Building By-law - Public Consultation

The City of Vancouver is developing the next edition of the Building By-law using both the 2010 National Building Code of Canada (NBC) and the proposed 2012 edition of the British Columbia Building Code (BCBC) as the base document. An important objective of this process is to maintain Council mandated policies that have made the City a leader with respect to accessibility, fire & life safety, and green buildings.

As part of the development process, the City is consulting with the public and industry stakeholders regarding the draft By-law requirements which will form part of the 2012 Building By-law. The opportunities for public comment are listed below.

It is anticipated that the proposed 2012 Building By-law will be taken to Council for consideration in Fall 2012. Should Council adopt the proposed 2012 Building By-law, a grace period of six months will be provided prior to enactment of the new By-law, expected in the Spring of 2013. Please check back often for updates.
