VanMap GIS Mapping of Childcare Facilities

Social Planning, in conjunction with VanMap and Westcoast Child Care Resource Centre, has mapped licensed, group childcare centres, preschools, out of school care centres, child development hubs and new city-owned facilities under development on the City’s GIS mapping system.

The public edition of VanMap offers information on program type, number of spaces, address, and phone numbers by clicking on the child care report. The civic interest symbol indicates whether the City, Park Board or School Board provides support to the centre. For example, the City has a number of city-owned buildings and community amenity space that they lease for nominal rent to non-profit child care operators. The City also owns land and/or portables where child care operates. The Park and School Board offer land and/or facilities to child care on a cost recovery or nominal rate basis. Further explanation of the child care layers can be found under the documentation index.
