Hastings Park-PNE Master Plan

Hastings Park is one of Vancouver’s largest urban parks, encompassing 165 acres and drawing visitors from across the region each year.

The amphitheatre renewal is part of the Hastings Park-PNE Master Plan (5.8 MB), which guides the renewal of the park and aims to create a destination for residents and visitors.

We have been working alongside the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) to renew the PNE amphitheatre located in Hastings Park.

Prioritizing noise control

Increasing sound mitigation from the PNE amphitheatre into the surrounding neighbourhood is a priority for the project. We are working with an acoustic engineer, and the amphitheatre is being designed with sound attenuation in mind.

Sustainable and accessible design

Sustainable building certification

The renewed amphitheatre will be built to LEED Gold standards. The amphitheatre will also target Salmon-Safe certification.

Accessibility certification

The renewed amphitheatre will be built to achieve Rick Hanson Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) Gold. RHFAC Gold is the highest level of accessibility in the country and achieving this certification will help make sure City-owned buildings are accessible and inclusive for individuals with disabilities.
Background

The PNE is a non-profit statutory organization owned by the City of Vancouver and is responsible for Council-approved governance of Hastings Park and management, operations, and day-to-day maintenance of facilities on-site.

$5 million of the funds needed for the construction of the renewal will come from a reserve fund that is required to be spent on improvements for Hastings Park. The remaining capital funding will come from an internal loan program, which the PNE will repay the City over approximately 10 years.
