Indigenous artist call for PNE Amphitheatre

We are excited to announce a call for public art and integrated design at the PNE Amphitheatre renewal site.

This call is exclusively for xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) artists or artist teams to submit Expressions of Interest for creating 3 different Coast Salish artworks at the new amphitheatre.

Artist Eligibility Criteria 

This call is open to artists and artist teams from the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, sḵwx̱wú7mesh and səlilwətaɬ Nations.  

For the purposes of this call, we are seeking artists who meet at least 1 of these requirements:

  • Has completed basic academic training in art or an apprenticeship with an accomplished practitioner in the field
  • Maintains an artistic practice and has publicly shared an independent body of their work for at least 2 years
  • Is recognized as an artist by arts and culture peers within their community

Commission Details

This call is for Expressions of Interest. Eligible submissions will be adjudicated by a panel of arts and culture professionals, including those from xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, sḵwx̱wú7mesh and səlilwətaɬ Nations.

The panel will select 3 artists or artist teams, one for each site. They will create:

  1. Concept proposal
  2. Detailed design
  3. Final artwork

Each artist or artist team will be paid $20,000 in stages corresponding to the above deliverables.

The 3 sites are:

  • Back-of-house stage wall
  • Wall separating Playland from the PNE Amphitheatre
  • Concrete floor across the entire width of the amphitheatre
