Public art call for Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-waututh artists

The name sθәqәlxenәm ts'exwts'áxwi7 Rainbow Park was gifted in 2022 by xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ, through a collaborative naming process.

Key dates

  • Submission deadline: Monday, December 1, 2025 (before 4:30pm) 
  • Submission deadline for Squamish applicants: Monday, December 8, 2025 (before 4:30pm)
  • Selection panel review: Monday December 1 to Friday, December 12, 2025
  • Finalists selected: By Friday, December 12, 2025
  • Design development: Friday, December 12, 2025 to Friday, February 13, 2026
  • Fabrication and installation: February to April, 2026
  • Art unveiling: Spring 2026

The Vancouver Park Board is seeking submissions from 3 artists, 1 from each of the 3 local Nations, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ, to each create an original banner design, inspired by and reflective of the park name, sθәqәlxenәm ts'exwts'áxwi7 (rainbow).

This is the second call for artists’ designs in the park, to continue to highlight an exploration of the theme RAINBOW.

The design will be used for skyframe banners for a period of 2 years.

How to apply

We are inviting proposals for a design that is reflective of the theme of RAINBOW. This is broad and open to interpretation.

For your application, submit:

  • A brief letter of intent describing the concept of your design (sketches welcome but not required)
  • Examples of past work, if applicable

Submission deadline: Monday, December 1, 2025, at 4:30pm.
Submission deadline for Squamish applicants: Monday, December 8, 2025, at 4:30pm

Successful applicants will be contacted.

Compensation: The artist fee of $6,000 will be paid per successful artist for the original design concept.
