VANCOUVER sign artist call

A call for Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh artists

Building on the success of the temporary sign displayed during the winters of 2023 and 2024, we’re installing a permanent VANCOUVER sign in Coal Harbour.

Artists from the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations are invited to help design integrated artwork for the new sign, which features large letters spelling “VANCOUVER.”

These pieces will be part of this landmark public art project that will celebrate Vancouver’s identity and the rich cultures of the local Nations, welcoming residents and visitors.

Land acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge that Vancouver is situated on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) who have stewarded these lands, air, and waters since time immemorial.

We are excited about the opportunity to support xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw, and səlilwətaɬ cultural presence in the public realm through this call.

We would like to express our gratitude to local Nations’ staff collaborating on this work, and to local Nations’ artists.
