Steps to booking a micro-wedding

  Step 1: Review what to expect and bring

  All weddings must follow current orders from the Provincial Health Officer.

  On designated Fridays in 2023, wedding ceremonies of up to 20 people will be available for $550 plus GST.

  On four select Thursdays in 2023, smaller wedding ceremonies of up to 10 people will be available for $275 plus GST.

  Morning and afternoon timeslots will be offered, and you may specify your top three dates and times when making your wedding request.

  Wedding ceremony only; receptions are not permitted. Be prepared to bring your own hired officiant, marriage licence, photographer, and decorations. No food or drink other than water permitted.

  Important note City Hall has a no-scent policy

  A. Officiants and marriage licences

  • Bring two witnesses

  B. Guests

  • To become legally married, a minimum of five people, including the couple, officiant, and two witnesses are required to attend the wedding ceremony in person.
  • Our maximum capacity for each wedding ceremony option includes guests, the couple, and all hired vendors (examples: photographers and officiants).
  • We recommend inviting additional guests virtually. You are welcome to bring a tripod and set up a device to record your wedding day within your 30-minute time slot. Wi-Fi will be available.
  • We accept wedding groups into City Hall 30 minutes before your wedding time slot.

  C. Decorations

  • Provide your own
  • Pack in and pack out all decorations during your 30-minute time slot. You may not arrive early to decorate.
  • Must be zero-waste, and vases for flower bouquets may not contain any water.
  • Cannot be affixed in any way (no tape, tacks, nails)
  • No balloons, bubbles, or throwing litter inside or outside City Hall (includes confetti and rice)

  D. Photographers

  • Couples may hire their own photographers
  • Review suggested non-exclusive photo locations on City Hall grounds

  E. Cars and parking

  • Two wedding cars and one officiant car may park for free for the duration of the ceremony in a designated area (enter from 12^th Avenue westbound lane or Yukon Street). Please move your car if staying after the ceremony for photos.
  • Guests may find available pay parking around City Hall on the day of your wedding.

  • 30-minute time slots
  • The couple will stand together in the centre of the Council Chamber with the hired officiant. Guests are welcome to sit or stand during the ceremony. Refer to the floor plan.
  • Many ceremonies are done within 15 minutes and couples use the remaining time to take photos.
  • Ring the ceremonial ship’s bell above the doors to the Council Chamber after the wedding to celebrate your big day.
  • Staff will advise on any Provincial Health Officer (PHO) orders External website, opens in new tab at the time of your wedding.

  During City Hall business hours, 30-minute micro-weddings take place in the Council Chamber.

  Step 4: Review fees and refund/cancellation policy

  A. Booking fee for this cost-recovery program

  There are two wedding ceremony options available

  Option A

  • Available on select Fridays in 2023
  • $550 plus GST
  • Up to 20 attendees, including the couple and vendors
  • 30 minutes long

  Option B

  • Available on select Thursdays in 2023
  • $275 plus GST
  • Up to 10 attendees, including the couple and vendors
  • 30 minutes long

  B. Cancellation and refund policy

  • You may reschedule if you contact us at least 60 days prior, and if a new time is available within four months of the original date.
  • No refunds

  Step 5: Complete a booking request

  Complete our online form to request a booking.

  We will contact you within 10 business days of receiving your form to:

  • Confirm a date
  • Collect payment
