Follow-up Work 2004-2006

Upon completion of the DTES Crime Prevention/Community Development Project in 2004, the federal National Crime Prevention Strategy provided funding to the City of Vancouver for the "Sustaining Change from Within: Building on the DTES Community Development Project."

This project has three components:

1. Summaries of learnings and outcomes from the DTES Crime Prevention/Community Development Initiative (Sept. 2006)

2. Production of a video to document key learnings

Downtown Eastside Crime Prevention/Community Development Project (1999-2006)

A National Crime Prevention Strategy

In February 1999, the federal National Crime Prevention Centre provided a five-year, $5 million grant to the City of Vancouver and its partner the Vancouver Coalition for Crime Prevention and Drug Treatment. The funds (from the Crime Prevention Investment Fund) were allocated to help the City and the Coalition begin community mobilization efforts with the intent to improving safety in the Downtown Eastside.
