The Architecture Centre
Designed in 1909-1910 by architect A.A.Cox and completed in 1911, the building is a good example of the Renaissance Revival or Edwardian Commercial style of architecture. This building was designed for the Honourable Francis Carter-Cotton, a publisher and civic politician. Though briefly occupied by Edgetts grocery store, by the mid-1920's it housed the Daily Provinces printing presses (and was connected by bridge to their main building, the neighbouring Carter-Cotton Building) before finally being used as a garment factory. The Edgett Building (listed on the Vancouver Heritage Register in the "B" category) is located in Vancouvers historic downtown at Victory Square, in close proximity to such noted "A" category heritage buildings as the Sun Tower and Dominion Building. The intent of this project was to rehabilitate the existing building by "adaptive reuse".
