Designed and built in 1938 by the Dominion Construction company, the Bay Theatre (most recently known as the Starlight Theatre) is a good example of the Art Moderne style of architecture and is a local landmark. Since 1939, various groups operated the theatre - from the original independent owner to national players like Cineplex Odeon and Famous Players - before it finally returned to local management. The Bay Theatre is listed on the Vancouver Heritage Register in the "C" category and is located in the dense urban residential and retail neighbourhood of Vancouver’s West End. The project intented the rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of this theatre- and commercial building into just commercial uses.
