This is a new page within the Social Planning website. It’s designed to provide quick access to a range of our most popular documents, resources and websites.

Over the next few months we will be adding additional tools and resources to this section. If you have any social planning-related items that you would like to share with the community, please send them our way.

General Information

Inventory of Community Spaces (Downloadable PDFPDF, 302KB) - Prepared for the City in 2003 by Mosaic. This resource guide details the various meeting spaces available around the City. It includes a brief description of each venue, supplemental equipment and catering, and any costs or deposits required. Note: information contained in this document is a couple of years old, so be sure to call ahead to verify the rates and availability of a given space.

Newcomer’s Guide - An overview of the city, local government and available services for newcomers to Vancouver. Available in five languages (Chinese, Punjabi, Spanish, Vietnamese and English)(Downloadable PDFPDF, approx. 2 to 6MB depending on language).

Information on Social Issues, Services, Trends and Policies

VanMap - Publicly-accessible GIS mapping of Vancouver. Contains various layers for social planning initiatives, as well as a range of other materials.

Social Indicators Report (Downloadable PDFPDF, 1.57MB) - A report of social indicators and statistics produced by the social planning department. Contains a number of population-maps and graphics. Available in colour (Downloadable PDFPDF, 1.57MB) or black&white (Downloadable PDFPDF, 975KB) versions.

Social Planning Reports and Publications - A link to our comprehensive listing of all departmental reports and publications.

Civic Engagement

Youth Civic Engagement - Links to a Youth page that contains a number of downloadable materials created to support youth involvement with municipal processes.

Get Involved - The City’s new portal for involving the community in civic issues. “...Take part in civic decision-making processes.  Learn more about your community and ways to help improve your neighbourhood.  Volunteer your time to help your City.”

Planning and Zoning

Community Amenity Contributions Through Rezoning - A compilation of materials pertaining to amenity contributions policies for private rezoning applications. Community amenities are provided through rezonings, as a means to help address growth costs, area deficiencies, and/or other community needs and impacts. CACs may be a cash contribution, or an amenity provided in-kind by the development.

Housing and Shelter

Updated GVRD Listing of shelter services available in the Lower Mainland (Downloadable PDFPDF, 38KB) - Revised March 2006.

Shelter Fact Sheet (Downloadable PDFPDF, 106KB) - A brief that explains the different elements of the shelter system (year-round, cold/wet weather and extreme weather) and the various regional coordination bodies. Prepared in February 2006.

City of Vancouver Housing Centre Resource Page - A listing of reports, studies and materials related to housing and homelessness in Vancouver and the Greater Vancouver region.

Funding

Grants & Funding Opportunities - A listing of the various grants administered by the Social Planning Department. Includes a list of external funding sources.

Community Group Finder - A handy search application that can help you to locate the various groups that work in your community.

Redbook Online - A searchable online guide to community, social and government agencies operating in the Lower Mainland (links to an external site).

Community Events Metalist - A listing of social issue and social planning-related community events, as set to us by community groups and organizations. Topical events listings are also available in our Policy and Initiatives section.
