Building Permit Application Requirements

All building permit applications for new one and two-family homes will need to meet the new regulations introduced as part of the Green Homes Program. At the building permit application stage, this can best be achieved by clearly including the following on your building plans:

  • Wall assembly details that meet the new exterior wall and basement wall insulation requirements
  • Concrete slab details that specify under-slab insulation that meets the new requirements will be provided
  • Window specifications that meet the new minimum window performance requirements
  • The location where the in-home energy display unit is intended to be installed
  • Direct-vent details for gas fireplaces
  • Location of the heat recovery ventilator (HRV)
  • Ducting that meets the new HRV requirements
  • Exterior venting details that meet the new HRV requirements
  • Pipe conduits that meet the new pre-piping for roof-mounted solar energy generation requirements
  • Electricity conduit and outlet box details that meet the new infrastructure for electric vehicle charging requirements
