Designated Structural Engineers (Struct. Eng.)

Designated Structural Engineers (Struct. Eng.)

The Structural Engineer (Struct. Eng.) designation was created through a directive from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC). The Building By-law was amended to require that a Structural Engineer having a Struct. Eng. designation be responsible for the structural design of buildings that fall under the scope of Part 3.

All plans and supporting documentation submitted for a building permit application for a Part 3 building must bear the Struct. Eng. stamp along with the engineer’s professional seal and signature.

A Struct. Eng. does not need to be involved on a building that falls under the scope of Part 9 but which has been designed to Part 4.
