2007 Vancouver Building By-law (VBBL)

View information on the upcoming revisions to the Building By-law

Vancouver City Council enacted the 2007 Vancouver Building By-law #9419 (VBBL) on January 30, 2007 and the VBBL is to come into force and take effect on May 1, 2007. The new  2007 Building By-law is written in the Objective Based format using the 2006 British Columbia Building Code as the base document. The objective based format is designed to promote innovation and flexibility in building design and construction.

Due to copyright protections, the entire Vancouver Building By-law is not available electronically on our website. However, you can view some Council mandated policies, and a list of “Unique to Vancouver” requirements.

The following parts and fee schedule of the VBBL are not copyrighted:

• Part 10 of Division B: Existing Buildings
• Part 11 of Division B: Float Homes and Marinas
• Part 1A of Division C: Administration - Building
• Part 1B of Division C: Administration - Plumbing
• Part 3 of Division C: Appeals, Offences, Penalties, and Transition Provisions
