Who do I call regarding a barking dog or backyard chickens?

Animal Control at 3-1-1

Who do I call regarding a busker outside playing music out on the street?

Engineering Services at 3-1-1.

Who do I call regarding a busker playing in the park or on the beach?

Call 3-1-1 - Park Board.

Who do I call regarding a vehicle idling out in front of my house or in the back lane?

Anti Idling Hotline at 3-1-1.

Who do I call regarding fitness programs, i.e., boot camps that are being conducted in Park Board properties?

Noise related to fitness programs of this nature should be directed to the Park and Recreation office by calling 3-1-1.

Who do I call regarding house alarms going off?

Who do I call when a festival, parades, free car days, Sun Run, etc.?

Who do I call for noise from outdoor speakers at a business premise?

Call 3-1-1 and refer to Noise Control or fill out the on-line complaint form.

Who do I call about airplane noise over my property?

The City of Vancouver does not have jurisdiction over airplane noise. Please call Noise Management at YVR at 604.207.7097 (24hrs). You may also e-mail them at noise@yvr.ca.

Who do I call regarding harbor noise – sirens, alarms, etc.?

The City of Vancouver has no jurisdiction over Port Land. Please contact the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority Hotline at 604.665.9004 or e-mail community.complaints@portmetrovancouver.com.

Who do I call regarding mosquito devices?

High frequency high pitch tones are currently under review by the City of Vancouver. Call 3-1-1 and refer to Noise Control or fill out the on-line complaint form.

What do I do if and when I observe a garbage hauler picking up garbage early in my area?

We require details specifically, location of the bin and/or address of the building it was servicing, when during the week it occurs, what time during the day and vehicle markings such as the plate number or vehicle number. If possible, the bin# that it was servicing would be helpful. Appropriate action will then be taken by the City of Vancouver to reverse the non-compliance.

What do I do if I have a noise concern and I live in a strata building?

Noise complaints/concerns in a strata building should first be directed to the building's strata council. The strata should uphold their by-laws in place.

The Noise Control By-law PDF(3.28mb) does not have provisions to enforce issues such as: children playing in backyards or streets/ lanes, people moving furniture, heavy walking or slamming of doors in residential buildings. Issues related to noise coming from school yards and fields, i.e., children playing, ringing of school bells, please contact the Vancouver School Board at 604.713.5091, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
