Our Mission is to provide effective electrical inspection service to our customers in order to maintain a safe electrical environment for the people of the City of Vancouver.
Role of the Electrical Branch
This branch is responsible for administration of the following:
- Vancouver Electrical By-law
- Electrical section of the Sign By-law
- Safety Standards Act
- Safety Standards General Regulation
- Electrical Safety Regulation
Key Functions of the Electrical Branch
The 17 Electrical Inspectors/Safety Officers, who are organized into districts, carry out the inspections of the following:
- installations of fire alarm and emergency systems
- installation of various electrical equipment including high voltage communication and optical fiber systems
- installation of field assembled electrical signs
- existing electrical works under annual /operating permits
- installations related to damaged power supply services, fire damage, vacant premises
- installations related to Occupancy Permit applications and tenant complaints
- wiring methods for energy efficient systems
