Role of the Plumbing, Fire Sprinkler and Gas Inspections

This branch is responsible for administration and enforcement of the:

  • Vancouver Building By-law, Part 7 and portions of Parts 3, 6 and 9
  • British Columbia Safety Standards Act/Gas Safety Regulation
  • Portions of the Vancouver Sewer and Watercourse By-law
  • Fire Sprinkler Codes (National Fire Protection Association)

Key Functions of the Plumbing Branch

The Plumbing Inspections Branch which consists of a Management Team, District Plumbing and Gas Inspectors, Secondary Suite Plumbing Inspectors, Grow-Operations Plumbing Inspectors, Plumbing Plan Reviewer and Sewer Separations Plumbing Inspections. They carry out inspections, while maintaining and fostering working relationships between the other inspection disciplines of authorized, permitted work within their assigned districts of the following:

  • Installation of plumbing, gas, and fire sprinkler into new construction commercial buildings and one- and two-family dwellings.
  • Installation and alterations of plumbing, gas, and fire sprinkler of existing commercial and residential occupancies.
  • Backflow assemblies and devices for Cross Connection Control of water piping systems and fire sprinkler systems.
