The Rebirth of Our Cemetery

New Space

For the first time in a quarter century Vancouver’s only cemetery has new spaces available for purchase. The award winning construction project recently completed at Mountain View Cemetery has resulted in more than 2,000 new spaces available for cremated remains and mark the beginning of a renewed interest and investment in this important civic space.

Background

In 2000, City staff and consultants developed a Master Plan, with a goal to reopen and revitalize this historic space. For the past few years, extensive planning and design has been going on at the cemetery, and some of the first major pieces of the Master Plan are taking shape.

A new operations yard was completed in July 2007,and the new cemetery office opened in April 2008. The Celebration Room (a place for families to hold memorial services on site) opened in 2009. The redesign also includes the creation of more than 2,000 new spaces for cremated remains.

We are tremendously proud and enthused about what has been created here at Mountain View.

At the Cemetery

Revitalization of the cemetery included the construction of a Celebration Hall which offers a spacious reception area and the light-filled Caradoc Room, which is perfect for meetings or sit-down lunches and dinners, thanks to the large, well-equipped kitchen.
