Celebrating 125 Years of Incorporation on April 6, 2011!!

About the Celebration

The City’s 125th anniversary will be marked on April 6, 2011. The City of Vancouver, the cultural community and the wider general public all have a common interest in celebrating this anniversary, as we have done for the City’s past major anniversaries such as its Golden and Diamond Jubilees in 1936 and 1946; its Centennial in 1986 at Expo 86 and its 115th birthday with the Portrait V2K Millennium Project.

In anticipation and preparation of a months-long celebration in 2011, the City of Vancouver worked to develop a comprehensive city-wide engagement and celebration plan for residents and visitors. Read more media articles and blog posts about the 125th Anniversary Celebration.

In this early 1900 street film, Seattle movie-maker, William Harbeck, mounted a camera on the front of a B.C. Electric Railway tram and filmed the journey along Granville and Hastings, along Westminster Avenue (now Main Street), Carrall, Powell, Cordova, Cambie, Robson and Davie . . . a fascinating look at a Vancouver of a century ago set to very quirky music!
