Cultural Infrastructure Grant Program
General Information
In 2008, the City of Vancouver Cultural Services completed a long range master plan for cultural spaces in Vancouver. The 2008 - 2023 Cultural Facilities Priorities Plan includes a number of strategies and tactics for improving the climate for cultural spaces creation and operation. One of the key strategies is the Cultural Infrastructure Grant Program. This Program provides for support for cultural space planning, acquisition, renovation and development.
- Eligible projects include pre-planning and feasibility studies as well as acquisition, renovation and development of cultural spaces.
- Equipment that is integral to the cultural space (i.e., it cannot be moved from site to site) is also eligible.
- The maximum level of support from City of Vancouver sources (including, for example, the Park Board) is 50% of total project costs. However, as demand for the Cultural Infrastructure Grant Program is expected to be high, projects demonstrating multi-partner financial support will have a competitive advantage.
- For capital costs on existing spaces, the space must be owned by, or on a long term (minimum 10 year) lease to the non-profit, and can be a City or non-City owned space.
Cultural Infrastructure Grants are available once per year to Vancouver-based non-profit, cultural organizations to assist with projects related to cultural facility pre-planning, purchase, construction, renovation, or expansion.
DEADLINE: June 30, 2011 at 4:30 pm.

Cultural Space Self-Assessment Checklist Available
Based on community input gathered through the Cultural Facilities Plan, a Self-Assessment Checklist
(44kb) is available to aid organizations in their space planning projects. This is an easy to use 8-page tool for assessing organizational readiness for cultural space development. From vision to project management, it asks questions that help clarify the kinds of work necessary for undertaking cultural projects.
The Self-Assessment Checklist uses the same basic criteria for assessment as will the Cultural Infrastructure Assesment Committee. Your project application will be strengthened by considering the topics contained in the checklist.
Cultural Spaces - Organizational Readiness
With thanks to Vancity Credit Union and the Social Purpose Real Estate Group, this Organizational Readiness
(35kb) tool helps organizations assess their readiness for cultural space projects. This easy to use check-list creates a 'one-stop-snap-shot' of the organization and its financial and planning readiness. From project leadership, existing funds used for facility related costs, current sq ft needs and projected needs including a summary of demand and supply related to the proposed space, the tool helps all involved ask and understand "are you ready for taking on a cultural space project?"
