A New Voice for Vancouver’s Creative Community
On Tuesday, February 28, 2012, Vancouver City Council established the Arts & Culture Policy Council. Up to 15 arts and cultural community representatives will be appointed to provide a new voice for Vancouver’s creative community.

Background Information
Establishment of an Arts and Culture Policy Council
In 2011, Vancouver City Council recommended establishing a committee which will advise Council and staff on all civic programs that relate to arts and culture, to identify issues, and support public outreach and awareness.
City staff conducted public workshops with interested members of Vancouver’s arts and cultural community. The workshop asked for input on the Arts and Culture Policy Council ’s priority directions for the next three years, as well as membership criteria.
A survey building on the results of the workshops was conducted online. The survey results and workshop feedback were included in a report to Vancouver City Council.

Cultural Services
The vibrancy of Vancouver's arts and culture scene is an exceptional benefit to its citizens and visitors. In 2008, City Council affirmed its commitment to a diverse and healthy creative sector through the adoption of the Cultural Plan for Vancouver 2008 - 2018. Leading the Culture Plan was the Creative City Task Force which developed the following vision:
“To develop, enliven, enhance and promote arts, culture, and cultural diversity in the City of Vancouver in ways that benefit our citizens, creative community, cultural entrepreneurs, business sector and visitors.”
Vancouver’s Cultural Services division supports arts and culture through programs and services including:
- Cultural Grants and Support Programs
- Cultural Infrastructure Grants and Programs
- Civic Theatres
- Public Art Program
- Hastings Park / PNE Development
- Special Projects
